In page 1988 Pacific hurricane season:

"

A tropical depression developed in the eastern Pacific on July 28, forecast to be absorbed by a very close nearby depression, later Tropical Storm Gilma.[1] The depression moved northward, although in unfavorable conditions.[2] The cyclone weakened as the depression to the southwest strengthened further.
