An Indo-Portuguese priest, Abbé Faria, revived public attention to animal magnetism. In the early 19th century, Abbé Faria introduced oriental hypnosis to Paris. Faria came from India[1] and gave exhibitions in 1814 and 1815 without manipulations or the use of Mesmer's baquet (medical).
